Cricket West Indies unveil home fixtures for next three years
The WI men's team will play 11 Test matches under the World Test Championship besides 20 ODIs and 36 T20Is at home between January 2020 and August 2022.
The West Indies had a good beginning to the year when they beat a strong England in Tests at home. They also picked some super performers in their squad for the ICC World Cup in England and Wales in May-July but after thumping Pakistan in the first game, the Caribbeans could win only one more game – against Afghanistan. After the World Cup, the West Indies lost series in all three formats against India at home, starting their campaign in the ICC Test Championship on a poor note.
The Caribbeans now have announced a new three-year fixture of both their men and women teams. While the men will play 11 Test matches under the World Test Championship besides 20 ODIs and 36 T20Is at home between January 2020 and August 2022, the women’s team will take part in a minimum of 15 ODIs, both at home and away, in the run-up to the World Cup scheduled in New Zealand in 2021.
The West Indies men’s team is ranked eighth in Tests at the moment; ninth in the ODIs and 10th in the T20Is. They though are the current world champions in T20Is. In the women’s section, the West Indies are ranked fourth in T20Is and sixth in ODIs.
Ireland to tour West Indies twice – in 2020 and 2022
In 2020, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa will tour the West Indies while Sri Lanka, Australia and Pakistan will be the visitors in 2021. In 2022, Ireland will tour the Caribbeans again besides England and Bangladesh. In between, the West Indies will tour India for two limited-over series. The women’s team, on the other hand, will host India next month while South Africa will visit the Caribbeans in May 2020.
Backing the unveiling of a full calendar, Cricket West Indies CEO Johnny Grave said, “This is a significant step forward for CWI and cricket fans and stakeholders across the region. Not only does this provide a full calendar of international fixtures which allows us to better plan and schedule our cricket, but it allows everyone who supports and loves cricket to know when the next big game or tournament is coming.”
