After making it two on two, the Delhi Capitals will be keen to slap a hat-trick of wins, whereas the panting Sunrisers Hyderabad will be desperate to open their account on Tuesday.
Two sides with contrasting fates – Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) – will locks horns with each other on 29th September 2020 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. After two straight wins on the trot, the Shreyas Iyer-led men are already looking strong and robust contenders this year. However, the journey so far for the Orange Army has been antithetical and they are yet to open their account after two matches.
As if the injury saga for the SRH camp was not enough with Mitchell Marsh and Kane Williamson sitting out, now there in-form middle-order pivot Manish Pandey and all-rounder Vijay Shankar have a niggle to tackle too. The team has not been able to strike the right string and the management is yet to finalize the most suitable eleven. The move of including Wirddhiman Saha in place of Shankar did little help, whereas the inclusion of Khaleel Ahmed in the unit did not materialize either.
David Warner’s men waived off a winning opportunity courtesy a shameful collapse during a chase of 163 runs against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their first game. Whereas against the Kolkata Knight Riders, their middle-order failed to fire again, except for Manish Pandey, as the team struggled its way to a below-par total of 142 for 4.
Defending a rather modest target, the SRH’s bowlers lacked the sharpness and looked innocuous for the majority part of the innings in front of the magnificence of Shubman Gill and opponent skipper Eoin Morgan.
For the Delhi Capitals, the story has turned beautifully until here. They managed to pull off a blinder in their first game as they snatched a victory from the jaws of the Kings XI Punjab courtesy Marcus Stoinis’ brilliance with both bat and ball before the Super Over.
In the second game against the Chennai Super Kings as well, Iyer’s charges were spot on with the bat as a blistering half-century by Prithvi Shaw and healthy contributions from Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant led the team’s total to a competitive 175 for 3.
The Proteas’ pace duo of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje bagged 5 wickets giving merely 47 runs in their 8 overs combined, before DC restricted CSK 44 runs short to pouch further 2 crucial points in its tally for 2020. After making it two on two, the Delhi Capitals will be keen to slap a hat-trick of wins, whereas the panting Sunrisers Hyderabad will be desperate to open their account on Tuesday.
Pitch and conditions
An even contest between the bat and ball awaits the two teams at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Tuesday. The quicks have been able to find some early movement in the air as well as from the surface in all the games hitherto, whereas the spinners have struck in the middle overs.
In the three games played at this venue this year, the teams chasing have won twice and the total has been defended once. Therefore, nothing conclusive can be drawn from such a small sample. With a sure expectation of dew as the night approaches, the team winning the toss might be penchant towards chasing.
Playing Combinations for DC vs SRH
Delhi Capitals Probable 11
With Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, and SHyera Iyer getting amongst the runs in the last game, the picture for DC’s top-order looks merry for now. Shaw particularly played with great control and fluency during his 64-run knock in the last game. Marcus Stoinis, their hero from the first game, did not get a chance to play a role in the second game.
The spin duo of Axar Patel and Amit Mishra was extremely frugal in giving runs, and despite getting only a wicket between themselves, they tightened the noose around the batsmen to build pressure on them, while the pacers Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje looked sharp with the new ball and did the most damage. The young medium-fast bowler Avesh Khan was the only concern for the Capitals in the last game as he went for runs.
Probable 11- Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Shreyas Iyer (C), Marcus Stoinis, Shimron Hetmyer, Axar Patel, Amit Mishra, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Avesh Khan/Harshal Patel
Sunrisers Hyderabad Probable 11
The threatening pair of SRH at the top in David Warner and Jonny Bairstow has not been able to fire in tandem. While Bairstow smacked a half-century in the first game when Warner got dismissed in the unluckiest of fashions, the latter got off to a start in the second game where his partner fell cheaply. Manish Pandey, who has fired in both the game, has reportedly done slight harm to himself in the nets, however, he is expected to play.
Subjected to Vijay Shankar’s fitness, Saha’s spot in the team will be decided. The young all-rounder Abhishek Sharma and Mohammad Nabi will pick themselves, although SRH might want to try the J&K sensation Abdul Samad in place of Priyam Garg. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead the pace attack alongside T Natrajan and Khaleel Ahmed.
Probable 11- David Warner (C), Jonny Bairstow (WK), Manish Pandey, Wriddhiman Saha/Vijay Shankar, Mohammad Nabi, Abhishek Sharma, Priyam Garg/Abdul Samad, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, T Natarajan
