The inaugural edition of the UAE T20X is all set to hit the straps in December this year. The organisers are doing their every bit to make it a huge event by recruiting some of the top international cricketers. AB de Villiers has been appointed the Global Ambassador of the league and he also expressed confidence that it will be a great exposure for the local players. However, the former cricketers are also bracing up for coaching roles in the five teams which will compete in the tournament.
The likes of VVS Laxman, Robin Singh, Venkatesh Prasad and Sanjay Bangar are all set to make their presence felt in the first season of the T20 league. Interestingly, AR Srikkant, performance and strategic analyst of the KKR in the IPL has also signed up.
The former Pakistan stalwarts Shoaib Akhtar, Saqlain Mushtaq, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Saeed Ajmal, Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis have also confirmed their involvement while Chaminda Vaas has also put forth his name as the bowling coach.
Coaching roaster is ready
“The coaching roster we are currently building boasts some of the sport’s best former players and career coaches and is another clear demonstration of our commitment to not only showcase emerging talent, but to provide them with a high standard of competition and world-class coaching that will help develop their individual game,” Zayed Abbas, the board member at Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), was quoted as saying by The National.
Earlier in the day, it was revealed that Andre Russel and David Miller have been signed up as the icon players to play in the league. The organisers are now keen to find three more cricketers as icon players who will then be picked by each of the five franchises. The competition will commence on December 19 and will be played until January 11 in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
