Indian stars from the 2013 Champions Trophy winning team and what they are up to now
It was almost evident that England would win the game at home with only 130 to chase in the grand final. However, MS Dhoni and India stole the Trophy from within the grasp of the English team.
#7 Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja was the only batsman apart from Virat Kohli to score a 30 in the Indian innings in the 2013 Champions Trophy finals. The all-rounder from Saurashtra has spun the game around him as he went on to become the World’s No.1 bowler in the longest format of cricket.
Jadeja’s limited-overs form has been under scrutiny with close competition from the Gujarat bowler Axar Patel. However, things went favor of Jadeja despite his irregular form. He would want to prove the world once again that his form has not gone down since that 2013 final against England at their home.
#8 Ravichandran Ashwin
The off-spinner has become India’s most reliable spinner post the 2013 Champions Trophy. The all-rounder from Chennai has dominated the World Arena by weaving his magic in the form of his off-spin. Additionally, the all-rounder’s bat has also helped to bail the team out of pressure, with knocks of good quality.
Currently, the off-spinner is recovering from a peculiar injury referred to as Sports Hernia due to the long and strenuous Indian home season. The offie will be back in action in the Champions Trophy and would want to cement his legacy.
#9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvneshwar Kumar started to swing the world from the very first day with the national team. The right-arm swing bowler picked up a wicket in his first over in both ODI’s as well as in the T20 format against Pakistan and England. However, he hasn’t been a regular in the Indian team with the emergence of Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah.
The right-arm seamer is proving his worth in the IPL, picking up the purple cap to cap off his excellent bowling performance at the top level. With the bowler in his purple patch, he would be crucial in the Indian bowling line-up given the favorable bowling conditions of England.
