IPL 10: Broadcasters made life tougher for Gautam Gambhir during Eliminator
“Sony, the official broadcasters, made it even tougher. Whoever in their team was responsible to fill the rain time was surely not a KKR supporter," he quoted.
The Kolkata Knight Riders camp had a sigh of relief when the rain had finally subsided in the game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator a couple of days ago. Skipper Gautam Gambhir led his team to a thrilling win in the compact 6 over run chase. He looked absolutely pleased after the game as his team had survived another day to make it to the next level.
Gautam Gambhir was all smiles after the win. However, things were not the same throughout the game for him. When the rain gods had poured down heavily, Gambhir had his heart in his mouth. A wash out would have seen the Sunrisers Hyderabad go through based on their superior finish in the league stages. As per the quotes in the News18, Gambhir noted that he was worried during the entire time.
He was surprised to see the other players relaxed in the dressing room. On the contrary, he had the fear of crashing out of the tournament all the time.
“I remember I have always hated rain. As we waited for showers to stop, I was thinking, ‘here we go, this could be it’. As it is, I am such a poor loser and the possibility of crashing out of a tournament due to rain was killing me. There were some guys playing French cricket and I couldn’t understand, how could they? I was at my brooding worst,” quoted Gautam Gambhir.
Definitely not a KKR supporter
He further added that the television broadcasters had only made things worse for him. They kept on playing the highlights of the matches in which Kolkata Knight Riders were beaten by the oppositions. KKR had lost to SRH on both occasions in the league stages this year.
“Sony, the official broadcasters, made it even tougher. Whoever in their team was responsible to fill the rain time was surely not a KKR supporter. Outside, raindrops felt like nothing short of missiles, inside the dressing room, Sony played out highlights of our previous games against SRH and Mumbai Indians. We had lost both the matches. I didn’t know which side to look, may be heavenwards,” conceded Gautam Gambhir.
