Mumbai Indians emerged on the top against the Kings XI Punjab to stay alive in the tournament and will now face Kolkata Knight Riders twice in the space of four days. The defending champions are desperate for a winning streak that could take them close to a top-four finish. The Knight Riders will be looking to erase the tag of being bunnies of MI in the IPL having defeated the Chennai Super Kings in their previous match which was their 5th win of the season.

Key stats and numbers ahead of Mumbai’s home fixture against the Knight Riders:

2 – Mumbai Indians have won only two of their last eight matches at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Both those wins were against Royal Challengers Bangalore.


16 – Mumbai have won 16 IPL matches out of 22 they have played against Kolkata Knight Riders. These are the most number of wins for any team against an opponent in the IPL. They also won their previous six matches against KKR and also the four matches at the Wankhede since 2013.


20 – Piyush Chawla has taken 20 wickets in 17 matches against Mumbai Indians in the IPL which is the 3rd most for any player. Sunil Narine has bagged 16 wickets in the 12 matches he has played against MI at an average of 18.43.


25 – Both Robin Uthappa and Dinesh Karthik have scored runs with an average under 25 against Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Karthik has scored 237 runs in 15 innings at an average of 21.54 while Uthappa has 440 runs in 20 IPL innings against MI which accounts to an average of 24.44.


710 – Runs Rohit Sharma has scored in the IPL against Kolkata Kolkata Knight. These are the most runs for Rohit against any opponent in the IPL. Only Suresh Raina (747) has accumulated more runs against KKR in the IPL. The MI skipper has piled on 710 runs in 21 innings against them at an average of 47.33 with five fifty-plus scores.


5951 – JP Duminy needs 49 more runs to complete 6000 runs in the Twenty20 format. He will be the 2nd South African after AB de Villiers to complete 6000 T20 runs.

Duminy also needs one six for completing 200 T20 sixes.


6979 – Chris Lynn needs 21 more runs to complete 7000 runs in his professional career.
