The 15th edition of the grandeur event – Indian Premier League (IPL) – is set to sail in the month of April. The tournament has come a long way. One prime example which proves the eminence of the league is the amount of audience who waited for the teams to announce the retention list.
The once-in-three-year affair of the mega auction is now much anticipated by the fanatics. It is expected to be held in the last week of December or in the first week of January 2022. Many retentions of some franchises were unexpected.
Most of the teams have retained their star players and some have failed to convince their big guns. Money plays a crucial role in this tournament and almost 23 players have got extended pay considering their market values. Interestingly, some of the big-name players have taken a pay cut in their salary from last season due to various reasons.
In the list, let’s take a look at players, who took a pay cut for IPL 2022
1. Sunil Narine
Sunil Narine, playing for KKR, has been an exceptional performer in the IPL for years. He has been tremendous with the ball right from his first IPL game and has become a pinch hitter in the last few years. He still has the mystery in his fingers and troubles the batters with his fruitful variations.
Narine also has a terrific strike rate of 161 with the bat. He was an integral performer of the team and in fact, the team reached the finals last season largely due to his heroics. On playing 134 matches, he has taken 143 wickets with a terrific economy of 6.7.
He was the second-highest-paid cricketer in the KKR set up last season with a huge amount of Rs. 12.5 crores. But he has been retained only for less than half the amount this time for Rs. 6 crores. The Caribbean player, in spite of knowing that he would go high in the auctions, accepted the offer from the KKR franchise without any hesitation.
