IPL 2022: 5 Players if released, will get big bucks in auction next year

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the biggest and most competitive T20 leagues in the world. Some of the best players in the world, along with local uncapped players also feature in the tournament. The franchises before the start of every season look to revamp their squad in the auction. Some players are retained, and others get released by every franchise prior to the auction. IPL 2022 was yet another edition that provided competition, quality, and a platform for promising players. However, some players have failed to live up to the expectations. These players were either sidelined from the playing XI or fell short of the standards set by themselves in the previous seasons. This could perhaps trigger their current franchises to release them in the next auction. However, these cricketers showed glimpses of quality in the past, and this could attract other franchises to buy them for big amounts. 5 players who can be bought for big money following their release in IPL 2023 1. Shahrukh Khan Shahrukh Khan. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) A promising batter from Chennai, Shahrukh Khan, has been one of the important players of Tamil Nadu in the domestic circuit over the last year or so. He has over 500 runs in eight first-class matches at an average of over 46, and over 700 runs at an average of over 43 in 33 List A matches. Shahrukh established a reputation for himself for his big-hitting abilities. He was also part of the Tamil Nadu team that won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. His knocks played a crucial role for Tamil Nadu in winning the quarterfinal and final of the tournament in 2020-21. He also secured the title in the following year with his last ball six in the final. Shahrukh was picked by Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2021. He showed glimpses of his power-hitting abilities, but could not quite carry that into the following season. His lack of consistency to score runs has also been a matter of concern. He scored 153 runs at an average of 21.85, and a strike rate of 134.21 in 2021. And in 2022, he scored 117 runs at 16.71 with a strike rate of 108.33. 2. Devdutt Padikkal Devdutt Padikkal. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The 21-year-old left-handed batter, Devdutt Padikkal, is a product of Karnataka. Padikkal has already bagged great success in domestic circuit with top score of 178 in the first-class circuit. He was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction 2019. Padikkal, in his first four matches of the IPL 2020, scored three fifties and became the first batter in the history of the competition to do so. He also went on to win the Emerging Player Award that season. In his first two seasons, he scored 884 runs at an average of over 31.50, with six fifties and a hundred. Padikkal was bought by Rajasthan Royals (RR) for the 2022 season. He did not bat at his natural opening position but was demoted to number 4, in that season. He went on to score 376 runs at 22.12 with only one fifty. The next year could be his breakthrough season. 3. Abdul Samad Abdul Samad (Photo Source: Twitter) Abdul Samad, a right-handed batter from Jammu and Kashmir, is known for his ability to strike the ball long. He is only the fourth cricketer from that region to feature in the IPL. In his 13 first-class matches, he has scored three hundred and four fifties. He also bowls occasional leg-spin and has bagged six first-class wickets. He was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2020 IPL Auction. In his opening season, he scored 111 runs at a strike rate of 170.76. He scored as many runs in the 2021 season with a strike rate of 127.58. In the 2022 season, he played only two matches and scored only 4 runs. Samad was also one of the retained players in the 2022 auction by SRH. But his recent decline in form has kept him away from the starting XI. The upcoming season could be the make-or-break season for the 21-year-old. 4. Dwaine Pretorius Dwaine Pretorius. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The big South African fast bowler was signed by the 2021 champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2022 IPL Auction. Pretorius is predominantly a bowler, but he can also contribute with the bat at the back-end of the innings. Pretorius made his international debut for South Africa in 2016. He was part of the South Africa squad in the 2019 World Cup. He played two games in the tournament and won the Man of the Match against Sri Lanka. Pretorius is known for his variations with the ball and useful cameos with the bat. In his first stint at the IPL, he played six matches and picked up six wickets at an economy rate of 10.00. He scored 44 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 157.14. Pretorius’s initial struggles in the season kept him on the sidelines. 5. Kartik Tyagi Kartik Tyagi. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The tall fast bowler from Uttar Pradesh was one of the key members of the Indian U19 World Cup team in 2020. India finished as the runner-up, and he scalped 11 wickets in the tournament. He caught the attention for his pace and ability to move the new ball. Rajasthan Royals (RR) bought him in 2020 in the IPL Auction. He went on to pick nine wickets in 10 games in his first season at an economy rate of 9.61. In 2021, and in 2022 with Sunrisers Hyderabad, he picked up a total of only five wickets at an economy of 9.36, after appearing in only six games. In the 2021 season against Punjab Kings, Tyagi won the Man of the Match award after he conceded only one run off the final over while defending four runs. Tyagi also traveled with the India team to Australia bowler as a net bowler in 2020.
