List of Teams with Most 300 Plus run chases in ODIs: There was once a time when a team scoring 300 runs batting first in ODI was considered an untouchable target and guaranteed victory. Nowadays, totals of 350 are not safe with small boundaries and fielding restrictions been placed upon the bowlers. Also the use of 2 new balls has given the batsmen the advantage of seeing the ball nicely even in the death of the innings with no fear of reverse swing. Here are the list of teams with most 300 plus chases in ODIs: 10. Zimbabwe 2: Zimbabwe have chased a 300+ total once. (Photo Source: AFP) Zimbabwe have chased a total of 300+ twice in their ODI history. They chased down 328 against New Zealand in 2011 in Bulawayo. Thanks to Malcolm Waller’s unbeaten 99, Zimbabwe overhauled the total of 328 with ease, scoring 329/9. They have had to chase totals in excess of 300 five times in ODIs, they won two out of it and ended on the losing side 3 times. 9. Ireland – 3: Ireland. Their highest chase has been the famous win over England in 2011 World cup at Bangalore where they chased down 328 after being 140 for 5, thanks to the fastest World cup century by Kevin O’Brien. 8. The highest total ever chased by Bangladesh is 318 against Scotland. In the World Cup 2015 Pool A match Scotland posted 318 which they chased down with 6 wickets in hand. In another chase Tamim Iqbal’s 154 trumped Charles Coventry’s 194 as Bangladesh chased down 312 with 4 wickets in hand. 7. New Zealand – 4: New Zealand’s highest chase is 349 runs against Australia in Napier in 2007. New Zealand was 114/5, but Craig McMillan’s 117 and Brendon McCullum’s 91 made sure New Zealand got there with 1 wicket in hand. The Black Caps have chased down 300+ totals four times in ODIs. 6. They also equaled 338 against India in the 2011 World cup, thanks to a century (158) from captain Andrew Strauss. Very recently they chased down a couple of 300s against Australia and New Zealand at Hobart and Southampton. Over the last couple of years, England has evolved as one of the better limited-overs sides playing impressing one and all with their fearless approach. 5. South Africa came out firing from all cylinders as they had nothing to lose. Graeme Smith made a whirlwind 90 off 55 balls and Herschelle Gibbs scored a brilliant 175. But it was Mark Boucher’s 50 that got them past the finish line with 1 wicket in hand and score on 438/9. 4. Their highest chase has been against Bangladesh in the 2014 Asia cup match. Bangladesh scored 326 thanks to Anamul Haque’s 100. Pakistan chased the total down with 103 from Ahmed Shehzad and a late assault by Shahid Afridi who scored 59 runs off 25 balls with 7 sixes. 3. Sri Lanka – 8: Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga’s 286 run opening partnership helped Sri Lanka chase 321 against England. They were of course the first team to chase 300+ totals when they chased 312 against Zimbabwe in the 1992 world cup game at New Plymouth. Their highest successful chase has been against England at Leeds in 2006 when Sri Lanka overhauled England’s 321/7. Sri Lanka chased that thanks to a 286 run opening stand by Upul Tharanga (109) and Sanath Jayasuriya (152), winning the match by 8 wickets in just 37 overs. 2. And they have chased 300+ scores 9 times. They are also the only team to make a score of 400+ and loose. Their highest chase has been against arch rivals England in 2010-11. England scored 333 for 6 with Jonathan Trott’s 137. Australia managed to chase that in the last over at the loss of 8 wickets. Michael Clarke top scored with 82 runs for them. 1. India – 16: India has chased 300 or more a record 15 times in ODI history . (Photo Source: BCCI) India has become a chasing superpower. They prefer to chase while playing anywhere. Especially in Indian conditions, where the ball turns square, India prefers to restrict the teams to a manageable total and then chase it. India, fortunately, has great players of spin to neutralize that threat. The highest score chased by India is 362 against Australia at Jaipur in 2013.
