MS Dhoni has been for many the greatest captain the country has ever witnessed. He has been a top-class finisher and his abilities behind the wickets have been just extraordinary. From being a T20 World Cup-winning captain in 2007 to lifting the ICC Champions trophy in 2013, Dhoni has achieved every feat one can just dream of achieving.

In the art of managing finite innings, reading a contest’s rhythm, and its tactical aspects, Dhoni never had any equal. He always had the gut feel for what can happen and the ability to get the best out of his resources. His greatest strength was his nerve. When others tried to finish things quickly to pre-empt panicking, he took games deep.

I am a huge MS Dhoni fan: Dean Jones

Dean Jones, during an exclusive conversation with Hindustan Times, highly praised the CSK captain and believed that he still has chances of making it into the national team. “Look I am a huge MS Dhoni fan. I think he is among the top 6 greatest cricketers of all time for India. If he has a good IPL and the other boys don’t then come to the World Cup he might be looked at,” he said.

He also believed that the great man prepares for every aspect of the game with high perfection. “So, it’s a big opportunity, and knowing MS he will prepare himself to absolute perfection to get himself ready for this, and I hope he does well,” Jones said.

Jones also heaped praise on Mahi’s ability to keep the crowd on their feet for the whole game with his unpredictable game.

“What he does is he makes past players like myself and people to just move forward in their seats and watch how he goes about his cricket. There aren’t too many players who could do that. If you have gone to watch a match and MS is playing, people are always on the edge of their seats because they don’t know what he is going to do next,” he said.

The former Australian has hopes of Dhoni having a good IPL this year. “He is a great entertainer and I hope he will have a great IPL because I am looking forward to how he plays,” he said.

The ace commentator also recalled the time when former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf praised MS for his long hair. “Probably the hair cut in Pakistan. I was commentating and President Musharraf told him to keep the hair cut and said he looked good in it. He is that style of player that even presidents and prime ministers talk about him because he captivates everyone,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dhoni is set to take the field after a gap of more than one year in this year’s IPL. He last featured in the world cup semifinal which India lost to New Zealand. CSKians are eagerly waiting for a Dhoni flourish once again.
