Ranking India's top 10 match-winners in ICC T20 World Cup history
Many players from India's 2007 T20 World Cup-winning squad made the list.
4. Ravi Ashwin
The talismanic off-spinner has not been part of India’s white-ball team in the last few years and might also be overlooked for this year’s tournament. However, his record in T20I cricket is nothing but impressive.
Ravi Ashwin has bowled some sensational spells in T20Is and is also the first Indian bowler to scalp 50 wickets in the format. Ashwin played for India in the last three editions of the T20 World Cup (2012, 2014 and 2016).
Although the Men in Blue didn’t get glory in these tournaments, their journey was impressive, and a lot of credit goes to the star off-spinner. Ashwin took wickets regularly in the middle overs and also didn’t leak a lot of runs. In total, he scalped 20 wickets in 16 T20 World Cup games, the most for any Indian.
Moreover, his economy rate in the tournament has been 6.18, which is another reason why Ashwin makes it to the top four on this list. These numbers aren’t ordinary by any standards, and it would be interesting to see if the national selectors will consider the spinner for the T20 extravaganza.
