Ranking India's top 10 match-winners in ICC T20 World Cup history
Many players from India's 2007 T20 World Cup-winning squad made the list.
5. Gautam Gambhir
The man of big games, Gautam Gambhir finds a fifth place in this list. Unlike most of the successful T20 batsmen, Gambhir wasn’t known for his big striking, but his ability to score runs consistently made him a great asset.
In the 2007 T20 World Cup, the left-handed batsman gave India good starts regularly, allowing the likes of Yuvraj Singh and Rohit Sharma to unleash carnage in the end overs. Now, who can forget his spectacular knock against Pakistan in the final?
While the likes of Robin Uthappa, Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni failed to deliver, Gambhir didn’t put his guards down and smashed the Pakistan bowlers all over the park. In total, he scored 75 off 54 balls as the Men in Blue posted 157/7, which proved to be enough.
In fact, Gambhir was India’s highest run-scorer in the tournament with 227 runs. The southpaw also featured in the next three editions of the event and played several impressive knocks. Gambhir retired from all forms of cricket in December 2018 and has now turned into a politician.
