There has been a complete change in cricket as compared to what it was a few years ago. Cricket now is mainly dominated by the new format, the T20s. The 20-over game has bought the terms like pinch-hitting, the scoops, the cutters. One simply requires a lot of skills to become a successful cricketer nowadays.

Though T20s have been a highlight, Test cricket has also regained its top level. The biggest step towards the betterment of Tests was the ICC World Test Championship. A few years ago there had been many Test matches which used to end in a draw but now the results are coming. The ODI cricket has faced a downfall after the COVID-19 pandemic but it will surely regain its level again with the ODI World Cup coming in 2023.

That’s how cricket has evolved nowadays, it’s the all-rounders’ game pretty much. The value provided by an all-rounder in any format of the game is priceless. Every team craves a top-quality all-rounder who can win matches with bat and ball. Here we will rank the-

The leading Test wicket-taker of the year. Ravi Ashwin had a phenomenal year picking up 52 wickets in eight Test matches with an incredible bowling average of 16.23. He was the only bowler in 2021 to reach the 50 wicket mark. He was brilliant in the home Tests. He was named in the 15-member India squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 which marked his return to white-ball cricket after a long time.

The finger spinner completed 400 Test career wickets in 2021. He was only the fourth Indian bowler to do so. He even surpassed Harbhajan Singh in the list of highest Test wicket-takers of India. He is now on number three after Anil Kumble and Kapil Dev, and he is not much behind Kapil Dev. He took nine wickets in five games in T20Is in 2021.

He even scored a hundred in Australia and helped India to draw the third Test of the series in January 2021. The all-round abilities of Ashwin will be needed in the upcoming South Africa series in the absence of India’s premier all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Hopefully, he will not disappoint anyone being a quality cricketer.
