In the last few years, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have been the mainstay of the Indian batting order. Batting at number one and number two respectively, it would seem as though there is not a foot this duo can put wrong. Although there have been hiccups in the past when it comes to batting atop the order.

In fact, such are the strides made by the right and left-hand combination is that even the likes of KL Rahul and Murali Vijay have little choice but to be slotted into the middle-order, a narrative many are making attempts to change. Such is the understand between the duo that they make opening batting look so much more easy that advertised.

Recently, the duo of Dhawan and Rohit stumbled upon a milestone not many can boast of. Having put on a brisk 49 runs in the 2nd ODI against the Brits at Lord’s, they had stitched 893 runs together within the British Isles after surpassing Jason Roy and Alex Hales.

In fact, the top five list is dominated by England cricketers with a few fantastic names on the list as well. Alastair Cook, Ian Beel – both of whom have been England captains with newcomers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow featuring on the list as well.

At the moment, in the context of the overall England vs India series, the series is square at 1-1 with things expected to go down to the wire as both sides meet in the third and final ODI. At the moment, it would seem as though there will be everything to play for.

Most runs by an opening pair in England:

893 Rohit Sharma – Shikhar Dhawan

879 Jason Roy – Alex Hales

858 Alastair Cook – Ian Bell

822 Jason Roy – Jonny Bairstow

771 Marcus Trescothick – Andrew Strauss
