Sanju Samson posts a cryptic tweet after getting dropped from T20I squad for New Zealand tour
The right-hander, who last played for India back in 2015, suddenly stormed back into the national reckoning and was named in the Indian T20I squad for the three-match series against Bangladesh.
When the Indian cricket team was announced for the five-match T20I series during their upcoming tour of New Zealand, there was one notable inclusion from the squad that won against Sri Lanka 2-0. Kerala swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson was dropped from the set-up.
One of the worst feelings for any cricketer is when he gets dropped from the national set-up. And, the feeling gets even worse when you know you haven’t got adequate opportunities to prove your worth in International cricket.
Samson and Pant have dominated the narrative around the Indian T20I set-up since in the past 3-4 months. It all started when Sanji Samson smashed a plethora of records on his way to scoring a double-hundred in the Vijay Hazare 50-over domestic competition back in September.
The right-hander, who last played for India back in 2015, suddenly stormed back into the national reckoning and was named in the Indian T20I squad for the three-match series against Bangladesh.
Samson is visibly disappointed by the lack of opportunities and the subsequent snub from the T20I squad that will take on the Kiwis in a five-match series later this month, and the Rajasthan Royals‘ swashbuckling batsman took to Twitter on Thursday where he posted a cryptic tweet on his account. Samson made it clear as to how disappointed he is and he did that by placing a comma on his social media account.
That comma by Samson is symbolic of a lot of things. It is a reflection of where his International career stands at this juncture. It is also a reflection of the uncertainty that has galore around his International career thanks to the lack of any clear thought process by the team-management.
Samson was dropped after just one game from the New Zealand series
After being named in the T20I squad for the series against Bangladesh, Samson was consigned to the bench as he watched Rishabh Pant struggle both in front as well as behind the wickets. After warming the bench for the entirety of the T20Is series against Bangladesh, he was dropped from the initial squad for the series against the West Indies, and it was only a last-minute injury to Shikhar Dhawan that paved way for his return to the squad.
Samson finally got a chance to prove his credentials in the final T20I against Sri Lanka but he could only last two balls, as he was trapped LBW by Hasaranga after he’d hit a six off the first ball, he faced.
