Shaheen Afridi's spin bowling in nets reminds fans of Ravindra Jadeja, video goes viral
Shaheen Afridi was spotted bowling left-arm spin in nets ahead on the second Test between Pakistan and Australia in Karachi.
Pakistan speedster Shaheen Afridi has made a name for himself in his short but impressive career. The left-arm fast bowler can set the speed gun on fire and his ability to move the ball off the deck makes him even more lethal. Nailing yorkers and bouncers isn’t beyond his reach either. Besides all this, however, the 21-year-old also has some spin bowling up his sleeves.
The youngster was spotted bowling left-arm spin in nets ahead on the second Test between Pakistan and Australia in Karachi. The clip of the same went viral in no time as Shaheen’s action reminded fans of veteran Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. His short run-up and release was very much similar to that of the Indian all-rounder. Needless to mention, netizens didn’t take long in drawing comparisons.
Can Shaheen Afridi bowl spin in Karachi Test?
As Pakistan have the services of Nauman Ali and Sajid Khan in the ongoing series, Shaheen isn’t likely to showcase his spin-bowling in the Karachi Test. However, there’s a prospect of him bowling spin at some point in time. As per the current rules, teams maintaining slow over rate will be docked World Test Championship (WTC) points. Owing to the same, England pacer Ollie Robinson was seen bowling spin during the Ashes series earlier this year.
Hence, if Pakistan field a pace-heavy attack in an overseas Test, the pacers can be asked to bowl some over of spins to maintain the over rate. Shaheen might put his hand up in that case. As of now, however, Pakistan would want him to fire thunderbolts against Aussie batters in the ongoing series. The young pacer was pretty impressive in the first Test, having scalped a couple of wickets in Rawalpindi.
Notably, the track hardly had any assistance for bowlers and ICC rated the pitch conditions below average. However, Shaheen still managed to bowl an impressive spell. He would certainly like to continue the good work in Karachi.
Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterati reacted to Shaheen Afridi’s new skills:
