IPL 2023: Prithvi Shaw makes cryptic gesture towards DC’s dressing room following half-century
Prithvi Shaw scored 54 runs in 38 deliveries against Punjab Kings
The 64th game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a clash between the David Warner-led Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Wednesday, May 17.
Coming in to bat first after losing the toss, Delhi Capitals got off to a brilliant start to the game as Prithvi Shaw and skipper David Warner looked to be in sublime touch. It was an especially joyous evening for Shaw, as the 23-year-old played his first good knock in weeks.
Shaw had only managed to score 47 runs in six IPL games in 2023 before the side’s clash against Punjab. However, he was given the chance to join the squad after some time, and he came in with all guns blazing. Shaw amassed 54 runs in 38 deliveries and finally broke the jinx of his poor form.
Completing his half-century, Shaw celebrated in style. The 23-year-old made an ‘M’ sign with his hands, pointing it to the dressing room. The cryptic celebration left fans wondering about its meaning.
Punjab Kings succumb to hefty loss against Delhi
Following the excellent starts provided by Shaw and Warner, Rilee Rossouw amassed 82* runs in just 37 balls to propel the side to a mammoth total of 213 runs in Dharamsala. Sam Curran was the only bowler from Punjab who managed to take any wickets, dismissing both Shaw and Warner.
Coming in to chase the target, Punjab were met by the golden duck dismissal of skipper Shikhar Dhawan. Furthermore, Prabhsimran Singh was sent packing by Axar Patel for just 22 runs as well. However, it was the knocks of Atharva Taide and Liam Livingstone that brought Punjab within inches of a victory.
Taide scored 55 runs in 42 deliveries before he was retired out, whereas Livingstone amassed 94 runs in 48 balls and brought his side very close to a win. However, the knocks proved to be in vain in the end, as Delhi Capitals won the game by 15 runs and hindered Punjab’s plans in their quest for playoff qualification.
