In a heartwarming moment during the 2024 T20 World Cup, West Indies cricket legend Sir Vivian Richards awarded Suryakumar Yadav the best fielder’s medal. The honour came after Suryakumar's incredible catch that dismissed Bangladesh opener Litton Das, setting the stage for India’s early advantage in their Super-8 clash on Saturday, June 22, in Antigua.

The Indian Cricket Team shared a video on Instagram capturing the moment Richards entered the dressing room. The Men in Blue stood up in respect as the cricket icon made his entry. With a warm smile, Richards handed the medal to Suryakumar and wished the team the best for the rest of the tournament. He also expressed his happiness seeing Rishabh Pant back in action after his recovery from a serious accident.

In the match, Suryakumar's agile dive and quick reflexes outshone even the stellar performances of captain Rohit Sharma and Axar Patel, making him a well-deserved recipient of the medal. Richards' endorsement of India's potential, picking them as his second-favourite team in the ICC event, added an extra layer of motivation for the squad.

Considering everything we played really well, adapted to the conditions: Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma praised the team's aggressive strategy after the game, highlighting their successful adaptation to conditions and strong performance with both bat and ball.

“I have been talking about this for a long time now. It's about going there and putting that into work. Considering everything we played really well, adapted to the conditions. Overall we were good with bat and ball. All eight batters need to play their role, whatever it is."

“We saw one guy [Hardik Pandya] get 50 and we got 197, in T20 I don't believe we need to get fifties and hundreds, what matters is the pressure you put on the bowlers. All the batters from the word go played like that and that's how we want to play as well. There is a lot of experience in the squad and we back them,” he added.

India, riding high on their victory, are set to face Australia in their final Super-8 match in Gros Islet, St. Lucia, on Monday, June 24. The team's fans are eagerly awaiting another thrilling performance.
