Kolkata Knight Riders couldn’t have asked for a better start to the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League as they began on a winning note by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by four wickets at the Eden Gardens on Sunday. Among the thousands present in the stadium, one young fan cheered enthusiastically for every boundary hit by a KKR batsman and every wicket picked by a KKR bowler.
Infact, as per personal interactions with several KKR fans, this fan, in particular, is recognized as their fandom’s oldest, most loyal fan and the most enthusiastic fan. Shah Rukh Khan is a frequent feature at almost all of KKR’s matches at home and he cheered on for his boys with daughter Suhana and her friend and daughter of Sanjay Kapoor, Shanaya. In a video shared by the KKR Instagram handle, SRK, touched with this fan’s dedicated cheering, made sure he paid a visit to him after the match.
Have a look at it here:
Harshul Goenka, who has cerebral palsy, can be seen at KKR’s home games, accompanied by his mother Rajani, cheering for his favourite team. Harshul is a huge fan of SRK and had met with ‘King Khan’ back in 2014. Since then the KKR owner sends tickets for him to Kolkata’s home matches at Eden Gardens.
In the video, SRK greets the fan with hugs while newly appointed skipper Dinesh Karthik can be seen giving Harshul a matching award. The three then clicked a picture with each other. Harshul has been such an impactful fan that former KKR and current Delhi Daredevils captain Gautam Gambhir, had earlier posted a photo collage of Harshul, even though his association with the franchise came to an end.
Boss, as Harshul is fondly called, is differently-abled is also one of Sachin Tendulkar’s favourite fans. In fact, Tendulkar has played cricket with him in the lobby of the ITC Sonar in Kolkata. Every time India were in Kolkata, he used to leave a few match tickets at the hotel reception for Harshul who would attend each match at Eden no matter if the sun was beating down or the clouds were looming around.
