Top 10 Teams with Most Wickets in Test Cricket: Test cricket is an ultimate dream for any player who aspires to play the game professionally. It is often being considered as the real test of character for any cricketer and the side, testing them with their ability and endurance. No wonder how good a team performs in shorter formats of the game; if they fail to do well in test they don’t get the same applause. Test-cricket includes five continuous days of hard work for players on the field. Bowling is something which is termed as the hardest of task in the five-day cricket. As it requires the fielding side to bowl long spells in various conditions from England’s warm and sunny weather to Australia’s windy conditions and the Indian summers. Since test cricket’s very inception on 15 March 1877, it has been an integral part of cricket and every other form of the game is derived from this format. In 93 test matches so far, the tigers have managed to pick up 956 wickets. They are seen as the future of the game with their young cog of talented players emerging from the nation. Zimbabwe- 1189 wickets: Zimbabwe. (© Getty Images) Zimbabwe who started playing test cricket against the touring Indian side in 1992, has taken 1189 wickets at a reasonable average of 39.02. The Zimbabweans started off well in the test arena with some exiting lot of players but is undergoing a reconstruction phase. They played their last test against Bangladesh in 2014. 8. They have picked up 3470 wickets in 243 matches in their 33 years of test cricket history. With some big test names in their ranks in the likes of Muttiah Muralitharan and Chaminda Vaas Sri Lanka has done comparatively fair with the ball. They had grabbed a lot of scalps during their tenure as players. 7. New Zealand- 5386 wickets: New Zealand Test team. With most of those wickets coming in hard and bouncy pitches of New Zealand. 6. Pakistan- 5819 wickets: Pakistan. With the likes of Donald’s, Pollock’s, Ntini’s, Steyn’s, Morkel’s and so on. The South African’s has picked up 6074 wickets in 396 games that they have played in the history. Jacques Kallis and Graeme Smith have played major role in South Africa getting the Big status as a quality test team and is the number one ranked team in the world at the moment. 4. Considered to be a batting heavy weight with the best crop of batsmen emerging from the country, team India has done considerably well in the longest format of the game in recent past, first under Sourav Ganguly and then under MS Dhoni. With 6974 wickets in 495 matches at an average of 34.93, most part of those wickets have come in Asian sub-continent. 3. West Indies- 7673 wickets: West Indies test team. With those tall, sharp and strong pacers in their line-up, it was their bowling that won those matches and tournaments. In favorable conditions even the best batsmen couldn’t negotiate the Windies bowlers with success. The Caribbean team has grabbed 7673 scalps at an average of 32.03 in 510 games. 2. They are the second highest wicket taking country in the history of the game with 12727 in 783 matches but stands ahead of the Poms also leading the list with an impressive average of 29.04 and economy of 2.62. They are always considered as big guns and stands as highest wicket takers in the history of the game. The English men has played the highest 965 games with 14703 wickets at an average 30.17 since they took field against the Aussies for the first time in 1877.
