Kenya who were playing their 1st World Cup were considered to be an easy pushovers having lost all four matches played in the tournament were looking to play for pride. The West Indians on the other hand had already qualified for the quarter finals were looking to get a preferred place in the groupings. West Indies started well by dismissing Kenya for a paltry score of 166 runs. Courtney Walsh & Roger Harper picking 3 wickets apiece. Kenyans rocked the West Indian batting with some tight bowling with Captain Maurice Odumbe picking 3 wickets for just 15 runs from his quota of 10 overs. By beating West Indies Kenya had managed one of the greatest upsets in World Cup History.
