It was not too long ago that star Indian all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, had expressed his desire to score both a century and pick up a five-wicket haul in the same innings. Staying true to his word, Jadeja has already registered this stellar record to his name in the ongoing 1st Test vs Sri Lanka in Mohali.

The southpaw smashed a brilliant 175* off 228 coming in at seven after India had won the toss and chosen to bat first. Jadeja was in complete control of his innings giving away no chances to the opposition in his long stay at the middle. The innings constituted 17 fours and three sixes. Jadeja was involved in a 100+ partnership for the seventh wicket with a fellow spin partner and all-rounder, Ravichandran Ashwin.

However, the Saurashtra cricketer was not done yet after his heroics with the bat as he went on to put up an equally inspiring effort with the ball. The left-arm orthodox spinner recorded yet another five-wicket haul to his name picking up 5-41 in Sri Lanka’s first innings.

Ravindra Jadeja runs through Sri Lanka’s lower order

Sri Lanka went into Day two of the Test at 108-4. Though India was sloppy in the field and dropped a few chances, the visitors did well to be 161-4 at one point starting the day well enough. However, the next brief period saw them lose an unbelievable six wickets for just 13 runs.

The collapse was triggered by Jasprit Bumrah who sent back the set batter in Charith Asalanka. Jadeja then ran through the lower order with Sri Lanka being dismissed for 174 in reply to India’s first innings total of 574-8 d. India has since enforced the follow-on with Sri Lanka batting again.

On the back of his effort, Jadeja became only the sixth ever cricketer to score 150+ and pick up a five-wicket haul in an innings. The fans have since been describing the first Test of the series as a battle between Jadeja and Sri Lanka.
