Twitter Reactions: CAC faces heat as Ravi Shastri gets reappointed as Team India’s head coach
The fans opined that there was a pure bias in picking Shastri as the head coach.
There was a lot of anticipation in the last few days about Team India’s head coach. Ravi Shastri’s term came to an end post the World Cup 2019. The former all-rounder took over the responsibility in 2017 after the controversial Kohli-Kumble episode. During this while, the side won the ODI series in Australia and South Africa. They even managed to defeat the Kangaroos in the Test series.
Apart from these triumphs, there were several other memorable wins registered both at home and away. However, the team lost the all-important World Cup 2019 as they were knocked out by New Zealand in the semi-final. Since then, there has been a great debate about Virat Kohli’s captaincy and Ravi Shastri’s future.
Ravi Shastri to continue in the role till 2021
A Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) led by former Indian skipper Kapil Dev, along with the guidance of Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy was set up to choose one candidate out of the six who were shortlisted for the role. Apparently, the CAC was given five parameters to judge the best person for the job. With Phil Simmons pulling out of the race at the last moment, they had to pick between only five candidates.
Kapil Dev put curtains on all the anticipations and the rumours turned out to be true. Ravi Shastri was reappointed as the Head Coach of the team and will continue till 2021. Second on the list was Mike Hesson followed by Tom Moody. Dev informed that the competition between all the candidates was quite intense. As per the information provided, Ravi Shastri had an edge over others since he knows the team quite well.
However, this decision was not welcomed by Twitterati. The fans lashed out at the selection and felt Ravi Shastri wasn’t the right man for the job. While the CAC clearly mentioned it that there was no involvement of Virat Kohli in the selection, the fans didn’t agree.
They opined that Ravi Shastri will continue as the head coach as long as the 30-year-old is at the helm. Moreover, some of them found it hard to fall in line with the justification that the CAC gave behind the pick.
Here is how Twitterati reacted to the head coach’s selection:
