India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav celebrates his 34th birthday today. Surya rose to the echelons of Indian cricket through his spectacular performance in the Indian Premier League, playing for Mumbai Indians. As a result of the intense grind, he played his first game for India on 14 March, 2021 in a T20I against England in Ahmedabad. Notably, he held the number-one ranking for T20I batters for more than a year.
In December 2023, Suryakumar became the joint-fastest Indian to score 2000 runs in T20Is. He shared the record with former India captain, Virat Kohli, who also took 56 innings to reach the milestone. Moreover, he also became the third joint-fastest in the world to score 2000 runs in T20Is. Suryakumar (1164) surpassed former Australia batter Aaron Finch (1283) in terms of the number of balls taken to reach the 2000 runs milestone.
