In what was a rain-curtailed game at the Wanderers, the hosts managed to win a thriller and keep the series alive. If it was Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli in the first half, the likes of David Miller, Heinsen Klaasen ensured South Africa had the last laugh.

India who elected to bat first continued to follow the narrative from the previous games. While Rohit Sharma got out early again, it was again the Delhi duo of Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli to the rescue. Both combined for a scintillating partnership of 158 runs for the second wicket.

While Kohli failed to score another hundred, it was Dhawan who rose to the occasion this time around. In what was his 100th One-Day International game, Dhawan registered his 13th century. His electrifying innings of 109 (105) helped India lay the platform. However, the middle order continued to fail and didn’t convert on the start.

Ajinkya Rahane was poor as he couldn’t accelerate his innings and never got going. Shreyas Iyer who was brought in for injured Kedhar Jadhav made no difference. Hardik Pandya continued his poor run with the bat. It all fell upon MS Dhoni who’s unbeaten 42 ensured India had 289 runs on the board.

Both Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada got a couple of wickets each. South Africa began really well before losing skipper Aiden Markram. The match was delayed due to lightning as the hosts were set a target of 202 from 28 overs. JP Duminy who again came at No.3 was dismissed LBW by Kuldeep Yadav.

De Villiers made his presence felt as he smashed two sixes against Yuzvendra Chahal in his very first over and that put the Indian leggie off and he never returned in the game. However, he got out to Pandya soon trying to hit him over for a six. However, Chahal’s bad day wasn’t over yet. He got Miller out off consecutive balls but the deliveries were a no ball and a free hit.

Miller then unleashed his hitting skills as he went all bonkers. Chahal continued to be taken away to the cleaners as both Miller and Heinrich Klaasen continued their onslaught. South Africa managed to keep their unbeaten record in the Pink jersey intact.
