Yuzvendra Chahal says bowling with new partners in absence of Kuldeep Yadav is a learning experience for him
The scenario in India’s spin department is quite competitive at the moment.
He is yet to feature in a Test match for India but Yuzvendra Chahal is doing what he has got to do so far in style: bowling for India with the white ball. The wrist-spinner, who has played in 50 ODIs and 34 T20Is so far and is the fastest to reach 50 wickets in the shortest format in the recent series against Bangladesh. The scenario in India’s spin department is quite competitive at the moment with Chahal’s mate Kuldeep Yadav taking a backseat because of poor form.
The 29-year-old spinner, who knows how to operate his best under pressure, recently spoke to Sportstar in an exclusive interview over these matters and said as professional cricketers, it is their job to perform at whatever level they are playing. He also said that while he enjoyed bowling with Kuldeep in tandem, the new situation whereby he has to operate with other bowlers like Ravindra Jadeja, Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chahar is also teaching him a lot.
Yuzvendra Chahal feels that one needs to perform in every situation
“I played with Kuldeep for two years as a pair and there was a good bonding with him. I enjoyed bowling with him as we had a great understanding. But now that he is focusing on Tests, I am bowling with Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja), Krunal (Pandya) and Rahul Chahar,” said Chahal.
“It has been a good learning experience for me because after two years, I am suddenly bowling with different people. It’s a good challenge, so I would not say that there’s any pressure. As a professional player, you need to perform in every situation and I am just trying to continue whatever I did in the last two years,” he added.
Chahal was also out of the selectors’ favor after the World Cup as he missed the T20I series against the West Indies and South Africa and featured in just one ODI in the Caribbeans before returning for the Bangladesh series. Chahal last played for his state Haryana in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy semi-final that his team lost and will play next in the twin series against the Caribbeans at home starting this Friday.
