Mominul Haque has stepped down as the captain of the Bangladesh Test team following the home series defeat against Sri Lanka. The left-handed batter was under tremendous pressure as results were not going in his favour. Even, as a batter, he managed to score only 162 runs in six matches at an average of 16.2 in 2022. Despite winning a historical Test match in New Zealand earlier this year, Bangladesh lost consecutive series against South Africa and Sri Lanka which led him to take this decision.

Now, for the vacant post of the Test captaincy, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will look for some potent names. Young players like Litton Das, and Mehidy Hasan might to be considered for this great opportunity to lead the country in the longest format of the game. Otherwise, they could go for veteran and experienced Shakib Al Hasan as a safe option.

Here are the three contenders for Bangladesh’s next Test Captain

This 27-year old wicketkeeper-batter would be a good option for the Test captaincy. In recent years, he has delivered some important performances with his bat in different formats of the game. Till now, Litton has played 33 Tests where he scored 2011 runs in 56 innings at a decent average of 35.91.

Even in the recently concluded home series against the Lankans, he was the third-highest scorer of the series. He scored 281 runs in three innings at an average of 93.67. His career-best score of 141 runs came in that series, batting in a tricky situation.

Good performance in this series also earned him the career-best Test ranking (17th). As far as the wicketkeeping slot is concerned, he is considered good enough to be a successor to Mushfiqur Rahim. Hence, he could be a long-term solution for Bangladesh if they show some faith and patience in him.
