Currently, only two players have reached the 1000-run mark in Asia Cup history, those both being Sri Lankan superstars Sanath Jayasuriya (1220 runs) and Kumar Sangakkara (1075 runs). If team India win the Asia Cup, they would have played 6 games, which gives Rohit (currently 745 runs) the opportunity to reach that special landmark.

Rohit Sharma hasn’t been amongst the runs in recent times but the time away since WTC Final and the series against West Indies does give Rohit the opportunity to make the big runs and remind the cricketing world of the batting genius he is. Of the current Indian batters, Virat Kohli (11 matches) currently has 613 runs in Asia Cup history, which includes three 100s.

There is a more than likely chance that after this edition of the Asia Cup, Rohit won’t feature in any more games going forward. As mentioned in this article, his contributions have been right up there and has tasted plenty success. The record of being India’s first batter to reach 1000 runs would give him extra impetus of signing out of Asia Cups with a bang.
