I back my yorkers and bowl with 100 percent effort even in practice sessions: Avesh Khan
Avesh Khan has 11 wickets in the six matches played so far.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have been really impressive in their debut season of the Indian Premier League so far, and have maintained their place in the top four of the IPL 2022 points table. The players have performed well in all the matches, and a combined effort from the batters as well as the bowlers has helped LSG win four out of the six matches played till now.
In their recent game against the Mumbai Indians, skipper KL Rahul handled the batting department with an outstanding knock of 103* and set a target of 200 runs for Mumbai to chase. As MI was looking to break their losing streak and get the first points of the game, Avesh Khan made it difficult for the five-time champions to do that.
Avesh opened up about his ability to bowl yorkers during the powerplay as well as the death overs and revealed the reason behind why he has been successful in doing so. Talking about his spell during the post-match conference, he said:
“In practice sessions, I try to back my yorkers. I bowl my yorkers with 100 percent effort even in practice sessions because in the match, there always comes a situation where you have to bowl yorkers. As a bowler, if you don’t bowl your yorkers with 100 percent effort, it will be a miss then.”
“If you miss the yorker, then the batter has a good chance to hit the ball for a boundary. In the final over of the match or in the death overs, I always try to bowl with 100 percent of my effort and focus on the execution that whenever I bowl yorkers, I have to hit pinpoint yorkers or wide yorker or stump yorkers. I always try to bowl the yorkers exactly on the line,” he added.
Avesh Khan on LSG’s strategy while going out to defend the score
Khan picked up two wickets in the powerplay and ended the game with the bowling figures of 3/30. He cleaned up MI skipper Rohit Sharma and the in-form Dewald Brevis to break Mumbai’s confidence. Speaking of his strategy in the game, he explained:
“The attempt was to take out wickets initially as they were playing with six batters. Our plan was to take out one or two wickets early so that we can be on top of the game. Irrespective of the team, pitch or venue, if you make 200 runs then the scoreboard pressure is on other team. When we were walking towards the ground, this was the conversation happening and talked about doing well on the field and bowling in good areas.”
