3. Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians are the most successful franchise of the cash-rich league, having won the tournament on five occasions. However, they were a pale shadow of their vintage self in the 2022 season and were the wooden spoon holders of the competition, winning just four out of the 14 games. Following a poor season, MI have decided to restructure their squad and thus, have let go of 13 players from their team.

Mumbai presently have the likes of Tim David, Tristan Stubbs, and Dewald Brevis as their overseas stars on the batting front. David is a gun-finisher, who has shown his power-hitting might in T20 leagues around the world and also in the international arena. However, Stubbs and Brevis have not established themselves as proven performers on the big stage.

The South African duo has certainly shown a lot of promise with its exploits in the T20 circuit but lacks the experience of playing in high-pressure environments. Stubbs has featured in just 13 international matches, whereas Brevis is yet to make his South Africa debut. Also, the former faltered when thrown into the IPL arena in the previous edition scoring two runs in as many matches.

Thus, Mumbai would look to add some gun batters at the IPL 2023 auction who are and someone like Brook could be on their wishlist. The 23-year-old has the ability to change the course of the match in a matter of a few deliveries and has shown his game-changing prowess for England too. Therefore, MI might go hammer and tongs to pick the flamboyant batter at the auction.
