WPL Auction 2025
After two successful seasons, the nation is all set to witness the upcoming third season of the Women's Premier League (WPL) with more entertainment and thrilling contests from the women athletes. Following Mumbai Indians lifting the inaugural WPL title in 2023 under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, the previous edition saw a new winner emerging with Smriti Mandhana's Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women lifting the coveted trophy after defeating Delhi Capitals by eight wickets in the summit clash.
The new season will have a similar format as the previous two editions with five teams (Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Gujarat Giants) fighting it out to achieve the celebrated WPL gold. In the 2024 season, both Orange Cap and Purple Cap was earned by RCB-W players, in the form of Ellyse Perry (347 runs) and Shreyanka Patil (13 wickets), respectively. Additionally, with the induction of the Future Tour Program (FTP) now including a window for franchise leagues, WPL will begin in January from 2026 onwards instead of the usual February scheduling
Meanwhile, the competition's retention list date has been extended to November 7, having previously been October 15 for all teams. The auction purse for the third season has been increased to INR 15 crores, up from INR 12 crores in season one and INR 13.5 crores in the previous season. All five teams will be looking to retain their core group of players who have made a significant impact for the side.
